City of Portsmouth Declares December 4, 2007 "Charlie Griffin Day" in Honor of Longtime Portsmouth Regional Hospital VolunteerGrand birthday celebration held at hospital for Charlie Griffin, who turned 100 years old on Nov. 29, 2007Scroll down for photos December 4, 2007 -- Charlie Griffin, dedicated hopital ambassador and new member of the exclusive Century Club, was honored at Portsmouth Regional Hospital today with a birthday bash to recognize the positive impact he has made on hundreds of patients, family members, staff and volunteers during his many years of service to the hospital and Portsmouth community. Charlie is well-known for his unique hat collection, but it is his spirit, humor and mind-boggling energy and dedication that truly makes him one-of-a-kind. The party featured heartfelt words of thanks from Portsmouth Regional Hospital CEO William Schuler, a declaration by Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand making December 4, 2007 "Charlie Griffin Day," and a 36-foot long birthday cake created by the hospital's food and nutrition services department. Charlie also received awards and recognition for his birthday and more than 10,000 hours of service from the hospital's volunteer director, Donna Lewallen, and the president of The Guild at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Mary Zealide Walker. Congratulations on your 100th birthday, Charlie, and thank you for your enduring and inspiring service to the people of the Portsmouth community.
